FURNAS Centrais Elétricas S.A., mixed economy company that generates and transmits electricity subsidiary of Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. - Eletrobras, associated with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, is one of the players in the Brazilian power generation market, signed a turnkey Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract with a JV between Tecnimont (at that time Fiat Engineering) and Ivai for the construction of 500 MW combined cycle power plant to be installed in the existing power plant in 2002.
The project is based on no. 2 gas turbines dual fuel, each of them associated with a three-pressure level RH horizontal, natural circulation HRSGs with duct burning system, feeding each one a full condensing modified and overhauled steam turbine generator.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the existing installation, the space and layout of the plant have been adequately optimized thus conferring a specific characteristic.
The power plant has been conceived in compliance with the best practices in sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The power plant fulfilled all contractual technical requirements including high availability and strict environmental emission controls.
