Rapid P7: first “spaghetti-run” successfully performed

March 11, 2019 - The RAPID P7 project in Malaysia reached a new milestone: on 28 February the team started the functional test of the second extruder line of the RAPID P7 package, dedicated to the second Polypropylene production unit of the Facility.

The test, also known as "spaghetti-run" consists of flushing the machine with melted polymer: the fluid plastic is collected at the die-plate in the form of “spaghetti” by the operators, before moving on to the next step of the Extruder commissioning. It is a critical operation, which is performed manually and requires a well-coordinated team of specialists.

The RAPID P7 Unit consists of 2 Polypropylene (PP) production units, based on two different technologies that are licensed by Lyondell-Basell: the first production unit (Spheripol) was successfully tested in the first half of February.

The second polymerization unit (Spherizone) will be ready for the catalyst-in in March. The successful functional test run by Tecnimont's team is a fundamental achievement in completing the unit to receive the produced polymer.

Tecnimont SpA and China HuanQiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation (HQC) – partners of the Joint Venture TCMHQC – have been awarded by PETRONAS the execution of two packages of the Refinery And Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) Project.
